Who are Avis?

Avis was founded in 1946 by Warren Avis and they now operate in 5,000 locations worldwide. They are a company committed to delivering personalised service and exceeding customer expectations. Their mission is to 'ensure a stress-free car rental experience’.

Who can hire a car with Avis?

Any authorised driver who holds a current licence (not a learner’s or provisional) can hire a car with Avis. However, you can only hire a vehicle that is within the same category as stated on your license.

What are their age restrictions?

Those aged between 21-70 years of age are eligable to hire a car with Avis.

Are any roads off limits?

Yes, you must only use your Avis hire vehicle on roads which are properly formed and constructed, sealed or gravelled (unless the vehicle is a 4 wheel drive).

Do they pose any distance restrictions?

You are not authorised to drive their vehicles in places such as Kangaroo Island, Fraser Island, Cape Tribulation, in the Snowy Mountains, on beaches, in rivers... and that's just for starters! See their PDS for full details on where you cannot drive. Avis vehicles are also not permitted to leave Australia.

Do Avis cover items stolen from within the hire car?

Yes, Avis’s extra Personal Effects & Baggage Insurance (PEB) provides the renter, authorised drivers and any person traveling in the car with cover for loss or damage to baggage and personal effects contained within the rental vehicle. The maximum coverage is $ 6,000 per claim, and $ 2,025 per individual.

Use of vehicle

Like any rental car companies, you cannot use their vehicles for any illegal purposes, racing, contests or performance tests of any kind. You must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or have a blood alcohol content that exceeds the legal limit in the State or Territory in which the vehicle is driven.

Extra benefits

Hiring a car with Avis allows you to earn Frequent flyer points/miles with a selection of companies.   Additional drivers can be included without extra charge. GPS Navigation and mobile WIFI available in car.

Exxy collison waiver fees

If you hire a vehicle with Avis and it is damaged during your care you are required to pay damage liability of approximately $3,000 unless you take out their Loss Damage Waiver. This costs over $26 dollars a day which reduces your damage liability to around $300-$500.

Additional amounts payable

Even if you accept their Loss Damage Waiver option and pay their Excess Reduction, you still have to pay the full amount for any overhead, underbody or water damages, plus any repairs on tyres. 

Don’t get fleeced

You’d be baaarmey not to buy car hire excess with Baaaney instead. A policy with CHE could cost as little as $11* a day and if you do have an accident, no matter if it's to the underbody or tyres, you pay nothing, zero, zilch, nada!
